With its iridescent terra cotta façade, Roman and Williams’ Fitzroy is a hand-crafted jazz-age throwback to a time when luxury knew how to swing.

Justin Davidson, New York Magazine

Featuring an intricate green terra-cotta facade and large copper-framed windows, the 10-story boutique Fitzroy features 14 half and full floor homes designed inside and out by Roman and Williams. The building is well-detailed, and emulates a serious weightiness and commitment to bring character and craft to new development.

Terra cotta

A masonry facade composed of 5,600 terra cotta blocks with 500 unique shapes

The Fitzroy's palette and materials are about elevating and articulating that sense of contrast, the nourishing, ripe green of the park and river versus the grit of the city.

Roman and Williams

In a neighborhood known for its futurist expressions of form along the High Line, the Fitzroy embodies a return to the art and craft of building. The process of creating individual terracotta blocks for The Fitzroy facade involved a laborious human-touch process: molding, scraping, carving, glazing, and baking.

We are interested in spaces and objects that people can truly use and things that genuinely last. We are devoted to rebelling against disposability and the common stereotypes of what it means to be ‘modern’ today.
