Composed of 59 individually-designed waterfront residences around a glittering lagoon, Monad Terrace—by Ateliers Jean Nouvel—provides brilliant light and expansive private outdoor space sheltered by climbing gardens of native plants and flowers.
In the case of Monad Terrace, it’s not only a building. It’s an object belonging to the landscape, and belonging to a sense of place, and a positive part of the identity of that place.
Innovation
Monad Terrace is designed to reflect the light and water of its surroundings, while living in harmony with the time and place in which it rises.
From the beginning—and always—it has been important to me to put the spirit of place in all my work. Here in Miami, I wanted to create a building that is like the reflection of the sun on the water.
Nouvel has never shied away from luxury, but his work is grounded in a minded belief that architecture’s responsibility is to improve its surroundings and to serve a larger social purpose. Or, as he puts it, 'With one building you can change the nature of a place.'
Monad Terrace is the first condominium residence in Miami Beach built above updated flood and sea level elevations.
A model for future waterfront development.
Ateliers Jean Nouvel have composed the landscape specifically to complement the architecture. A sheltering cascade of native Bougainvillea, Spanish Moss, Tillandsias, Passion Vine, and other curated species create natural filters and curtains for the terraces behind, bringing the feeling of a living landscape on the North and South sides to the outdoor living area of every residence. The central lagoon is filled with plants and surrounded by sun decks.
Residences
Every residence is carefully oriented to frame views of Biscayne Bay, Downtown Miami, and South Beach. Nouvel's meticulous attention to the residents' experience is manifested in the interplay of details and materiality, nature and innovation
