Building Know-How: Terra Cotta
Terra-cotta is an ancient building material transforming “baked earth” into a structural component for building. In this film, “Building Know-How: Terra-Cotta,” JDS Development documents the step by step process of creating and installing individual terra-cotta blocks for The Fitzroy, a new boutique condominium project in Chelsea, Manhattan, designed by the talented firm Roman & Williams. The Fitzroy embodies a return to the art of building as a hand-crafted process, beautifully illustrated by the 5600 terra-cotta blocks in 500 unique types, each hand finished by Boston Valley Terra Cotta in two shades of green.
