In Far Rockaway, new beachfront rentals offer resilient architecture, luxe design

JDS Development Group is welcoming its first residents at Saltmeadow, a luxury rental project in Far Rockaway. The 60 residences are scattered across new townhouses on Beach 5th and Beach 6th Streets on the water in two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Designed by collaborator CetraRuddy, Saltmeadow embraces resilient design to withstand flooding. Habitable spaces and electrical closets are above the ground level. The architects selected resilient materials that echo the beachfront location: bluestone, rock, quartzite, as well as cedar. Bathrooms and kitchens feature marble with a beachfront feel. Many residences offer balconies and waterfront views.
