Building New York – MAS Summit 2013
At the 2013 Municipal Art Society Summit, JDS Managing Director Simon Koster joined Tommy Craig, Scott Rechler, and Mitch Rudin for “Building New York: The Development Community Perspective,” a conversation moderated by New York Daily News Real Estate Editor Matt Chaban. When asked by Chaban what drives a JDS project, Koster replied that “good design is good business,” noting that this holds true whether the project at hand is a rental or a condo in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or South Florida. Citing as examples the JDS Development projects at 111 West 57th Street, Stella Tower, and Walker Tower, Koster emphasized the importance of local context. Each of these three classic structures harken back to important eras in New York City’s architectural history, and as such their essential design should be honored.
