40 Under 40: Michael Stern – Crain’s New York

In 2015, Michael Stern was named one of the Crain’s New York’s “40 under 40.” In this interview, Stern explains how early in his career he received a piece of advice from a Fortune 500 CEO: many chief executives make the mistake of seeking out resumes full of sterling credentials at the expense of searching for people with strength of character. Stern’s mentor advised him to do the opposite, and with over a decade of experience under his belt, he believes that finding the right team means finding a balance of both: “You can teach various workplace skills,” he says, “but you can’t teach integrity.” Stern has worked hard to create a real estate development firm with a dynamic company culture in which members of a tight-knit team bring extraordinary expertise and creativity to different aspects of the design and construction process.
